As such we will now be offering thermal imaging during the measured survey stage of our projects, meaning you could get a view of where your house is losing the most heat, and with our expertise in improving energy performance we can advise you as to the best improvements for your home..
When there is a lack of insulation in a particular area the cold surfaces will chill the air. As well as generally increasing your energy bills, cold spots (also known as thermal bridges) can have another two effects in modern houses. Either the cold air will become more dense, dropping towards the ground and causing cool drafts around your ankles or any moisture in the air will condense on these cold surfaces leading to mould problems. These can both be improved with the application of additional insulation.
In the image above the camera picks up the lack of insulation in the roof, and as hot air rises all the heat in this room will escape between the rafters. In the image below the camera picks up a cold bridge around the top of the external wall in a bathroom, which would easily collect moisture after a bath, shower and even after a flush! Using the thermal camera helps show where the problem areas are, so they can be tackled on site during the building work.
