Domestic Extensions - Rear extension to existing timber framed house, Swarkestone, Derbyshire
This is an historic building within a conservation area. Although the property is not listed, the black and white timber frontage is believed to date from the early seventeenth century and clearly forms an integral part of the local character. Unfortunately, however, not much else of the original dwelling survives. The building was used as a dairy in the 1920s and 30s and also has numerous flat roof extensions to the rear, which have been added in a piecemeal fashion some time after the property returned to residential use.

This scheme involves significant renovations and alterations to the existing dwelling including the removal of the poor quality rear extensions, the construction of a new two-storey rear extension, internal reconfigurations and a new detached garage. The existing accommodation and layout has been greatly improved whilst respecting the property’s original features.
