Domestic Conversions - Conversion of redundant barn outbuilding, including two storey split-level rear extension, to form new dwelling, Colsterworth, Nottinghamshire.
This scheme creates a new detached dwelling by extending and renovating a redundant barn outbuilding. The main living areas are located in the new extension on a lower ground floor level, set down approximately ½ storey below the existing outbuilding. This element is sunk down into the ground and takes full advantage of the change in levels to ensure it does not impede any views from adjoining gardens. A glazed sunspace links the new extension with the existing outbuilding and houses a split level staircase providing access to the bedrooms above. A sensitive palette of natural stone and cedar cladding reflects the local surroundings and also provides a visual connection between the outbuilding and the new extension.
